  • JV Tigers Battle Panthers on Top of the Hill

Last Friday, the boys JV Tennis team played against FRA on Top of the Hill.  The Tiger's future is bright as 6th grade singles players Teddy Sauer '31 went toe-to-toe with the Panther's best player and Lucas Lupu won his singles match.  Our doubles play also continues to impress with play by Gray Ezell '31, Walker Hughey '31, Ian Drewry '30 and Finn Cooper '30.  The JV continues action next Monday at Lipscomb Academy.
  • Tigers Almost Take Down MBA on Their Home Courts

The USN Boys Varsity Tennis team traveled to MBA on Thursday for a big match up in the HVAC AAA division.  The Tigers dynamic duo of Max Parker '29 and Bruce Li '31 won the 1st and 2nd seed singles matches using their strong forehands and great net strategy.  The Tigers battled in the other three matches and even had a chance to win the matchup with great doubles play by Matthew Golann '29 and Preston Chan '29.  The Tigers resume AAA conference play on September 19th against Brentwood Academy at River Campus.
  • Tigers Host Hawks

The boys tennis teams hosted Harding this past Monday and played their top varsity players.  The Tigers were led in singles by Carter Kojetin '29, Teddy Sauer '31 and Lucas Lupu '31.  The doubles play of Ryan Farr '30 and Gray Ezell '31 took the Hawks all the way to a tie break and Wyatt Murphy '30 and Walker Hughey '31 played a great match in their first time playing together.
  • JV Boys tennis hosts Bellevue

The Boys JV Tennis team waited patiently after their first match with the heat wave we had last week and hosted Bellevue in a scrimmage at River Campus on Tuesday.  Bellevue had a mix of JV and Varsity players and tested the Tigers from the opening serve.  The Tigers were led at the #1 singles line by Teddy Sauer ‘31 while Wyatt Murphy ‘30 continues to shine in singles as well.  The doubles pairing of Arjun Oakley ‘30 and Ryan Farr ‘30 and Walker Hughey ‘31 and Gray Ezell ‘31 work well together at both the net and tracking down balls at the baseline.  The JV boys return to action Friday at Franklin Road Academy.
  • Varsity Boys Tennis Opens up on the Road at Ensworth

The MS Varsity Boys Tennis team started their quest for an HVAC championship visiting division rival Ensworth last Thursday at their indoor high school courts.

The USN Tigers were led by Bruce Li ‘31 who defeated Ensworth’s #2 player with an impressive 8-0 score.  The Tigers fought in the other matches to add to their tally with the 8th graders leading the charge including Max Parker ‘29 and Oliver Stahl ‘29  in singles and Carter Kojetin ‘29  and Preston Chan ‘29 and Matthew Golann ‘29 and Vihaan Sinha ‘29 in doubles.  Unfortunately, the USN Tigers fell short losing 4-1 but are excited to improve as the season progresses.  The boys tennis team returns to action today at MBA.
  • JV Boys Head to Currey Ingram for First Scrimmage

The MS JV Boys Tennis team visited Currey Ingram for a scrimmage less than 48 hours from the announcement of them making the roster.  The boys played over 12 (shorter) matches with a mix of singles and doubles and came close to splitting wins and losses with CIA.  The 7th graders kicked off the matches in doubles led by Wyatt Murphy '30 and Arjun Oakley '30.  Arjun's serve was humming and Wyatt's forehand was impressive for the first scrimmage.  Wyatt continued on from doubles to play an epic singles match as well.  Ryan Farr '30 and Ian Drewry '30 assisted our 6th graders in doubles and it helped as our 6th graders (Walker Hughley '31, Teddy Sauer '31, Gray Ezell '31, Lucas Lupu '31, Neel Sinha '31) showed us what a bright future the Tigers have.  Our JV returns to action next week in a rescheduled scrimmage with Bellevue Middle School and their first match at Franklin Road Academy on Friday, September, 6th.
  • MS Varsity Tennis Starts Strong vs. CPA Lions

The USN Middle School Varsity Boys Tennis Team came into the season with high expectations and showed why in their opening scrimmage vs. CPA at River Campus.  The Tigers beat the Lions 8-0, led by the singles matches of Max Parker '29, Bruce Li '31, and Oliver Stahl '29.  An additional singles match was notched by Meade Kelley '29.  The doubles pairings were also impressive with great communication and favorable outcomes.  The pairings that won included Preston Chan '29 & Carter Kojetin '29, Vihaan Sinha '29 and Matthew Golann '29, James Michels '29 and Leo Hemphill '29 and the final match of the day - a monster comeback win (down 5-1 to win 6-5) by Gil Jones '29 and Colin Puri '29.  The Tigers start HVAC play today at Ensworth and visit MBA next week.
