Varsity Cross Country Another week, another very challenging course for USNXC — the notorious hills of Buckner Park awaited the team on Saturday, September 27. It seems we were not alone in seeking challenge, as some of the top teams in the area also raced, making for some great competition. The boys finished 4th out of 19 teams, and the girls, featuring a few first-time varsity runners, all acquitted themselves more than ably, finishing 7th. The team is now gearing up for regionals later in October.
Varsity FootballOur co-op team with Donelson Christian Academy is starting the year off strong with a 4-2 record and several USN students on the roster.
Middle and High School Mountain BikingOur 17 HS racers began to hit their mid-season form at the last race, with HS team points accumulated from Elsa Absi’s ’29 5th place finish in JV3 out of 25 girls, Adeline Miller’s ’28 strong 8th place in JV2, and top 20 finishes for both Allen Chen ’29 in JV3 and Claire Dehner ’29 in JV3 (despite Dehner's crash mid-race). All 4 of our points winners improved their time from a year ago, from at least 3 minutes to more than 10 minutes. Absi’s race was smooth and strong for her two laps of 9 miles total with consistent 29-minute laps.

The 5th Grade Competition team remains undefeated in its Saturday Harpeth Hall/WNSL league. The girls pushed through a tough second set, coming back from being down by 10, and showed a great deal of resilience and perseverance to beat an all-6th-grade team that was also undefeated.
The 6th Grade A Team won two games against DCA, while the B Team played a doubleheader against Ensworth’s B and C teams, winning both matches 2 - 0. With some great games, amazing rallies, and awesome lessons, the 6th Grade went undefeated last week. This team has a lot of grit and will soon compete in the HVAC tournament this month.

Middle School TennisOur Tigers closed the books on the regular season high atop the Lipscomb Academy courts. The three mighty 8th-grade Singles players fought hard, but all tumbled into losses, along with our line 1 doubles. Our dynamic duo of Vivi and Sofia at line 2 doubles hung through a nail-biting match to be steadier in the end to pull out our only win with a score of 8-6! Syra and Olivia won their Exhibition match 6-3! Every girl on the team won a match this season! A very impressive achievement for our young team! Our season record is 3-2, with our HVAC Tournament on the Horizon.
USN's boys tennis team won both doubles matches and 2 of 3 exhibition matches against Lipscomb before losing three singles matches and one singles exhibition in a tie-breaker. Earlier in the week, we had two strong victories over Ensworth and Harding Academy.
