HS athletics recaps for September 12-18

While the volleyball team was batting during Volleyball Spirit Night, the cross country team participated in the Siegel Invitational, and the girls' soccer team picked up a key district win. Volleyball
The volleyball team took the top team in the district to five sets on Thursday. We battled well throughout the match, but couldn’t pull out the road upset over Goodpasture. They had a straight-sets win over Clarksville Academy on Tuesday, keeping the Cougars under 20 points in all three sets. The team started the week with a straight-sets loss against local rival Franklin Road Academy on Spirit Night.

Girls Soccer
The team picked up another district win over Nashville Christian on Thursday night. The 3-1 win came off goals by Annalise Rudolph ’26, Johnsie Dawkins ’28, and Laila Fierce ’27. The team had a rescheduled game earlier in the week against Clarksville Academy and will look to make that game up. They play host to Valor JV in a game on Friday, September 19.

Cross Country
After the team's favorite early-season race was cancelled (subtracted out, Dr. Fitz) last weekend, we pivoted and squeezed into an already-full Siegel Invitational in Murfreesboro this weekend.

The meet was held on a beautiful former golf course, and, as part of the course design, no golf course is ever flat - the course offered constant ups and downs, making it quite challenging. Still, we were there for the challenge and to get a good, honest effort in.

The girls rolled out first at a bright and early 7:30 a.m., with Madeleine Wiseman ’27 taking her spot near the front of the race from the gun (actually a static megaphone). As she has for three years, Madeleine stayed near the front, finishing in 6th place. Not far behind were Jackie Seale ’27 and Norah Harrison ’27, and strong second races from Julia Young ’27 and Sydney Lasher’29  helped the Tigers finish 4th out of 15 teams.

The boys were without last race's top performer, Griffin Davidson ’27, and usual varsity runner Caleb Little ’28, but were still more than competitive. With the Fab 4 down to the terrific trio, Drew Zwerner ’28 (4th), Caleb Freifeld ’28 (6th), and Jack Fruin ’27 (8th) led the team to a 3rd place finish out of 17 teams. Ably supporting the team was James Little ’26 in another PR performance, even on a tough course, and some varsity debuts from Chase Ginsberg ’28, Morgan McAteer ’28, and Christopher Nichols ’26.

The JV races were also exciting, with numerous PRs and some really strong debut performances from Elliott Carlson ’29 (who finished 9th in the race) and Greenlee Davidson ’29.
