The Middle School volleyball teams had a strong week, featuring several wins ahead of the Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference tournament. Meanwhile, the cross-country team battled weather delays before turning in a stellar performance at a recent meet. Read on to see how student-athletes did in this week's recap from MS Athletic Director Michael Scrutchin.
Volleyball
The 5th Grade Competition team remains undefeated in its Saturday Harpeth Hall/WNSL league. The girls pushed through a tough second set, coming back from being down by 10, and showed a great deal of resilience and perseverance to beat an all-6th-grade team that was also undefeated. USN is now 3 - 0 after a 2 - 0 win over Sparkle Spikers.
The 6th Grade A Team had two games against DCA on September 8 and September 11, and beat DCA both times 2 - 0. B Team played a doubleheader against Ensworth’s B and C teams on September 10. USN B Team won both matches 2 - 0. With some great games, amazing rallies, and awesome lessons, the 6th Grade went undefeated last week. This team has a lot of grit, and they are willing to do the tough things! Our A team will be competing in the HVAC Jr tournament on Friday, September 19.

Girls Tennis
Our Tigers closed the books on the regular season high atop the Lipscomb Academy courts. The three mighty 8th-grade Singles players fought hard, but all tumbled into losses, along with our line 1 doubles. Our dynamic duo of Vivi and Sofia at line 2 doubles hung through a nail-biting match to be steadier in the end to pull out our only win with a score of 8-6! Syra and Olivia won their Exhibition match 6-3! Every girl on the team won a match this season! A very impressive achievement for our young team! Our season record is 3-2, with our HVAC Tournament on the Horizon.
Before the final regular season match, the team had a strong week, beating Grace Christian Academy 5 - 0 and St. Cecilia 8 - 1.
Boys Tennis
USN won both doubles matches and won 2 of 3 exhibition matches against Lipscomb before losing three singles matches and one singles exhibition in a tie-breaker. Earlier in the week, we had two strong victories over Ensworth and Harding Academy.
