High School administrators inducted 22 members of the Class of 2025 into University School of Nashville's Cum Laude Society on Wednesday, November 13 in Durnan Auditorium. The newest members are: Lucy Elisabeth Callen, Collin Hamilton Chan, Ophelia Cherry-Pulay, Tessa Chomsky, Penelope Kathleen Graham, Daniel Guo, Anna Hulan, Caroline Alice Keiper, Kareena Banerjee Kloek, Stella Olivia Liebeskind, Lillian Brantley Martin, Margaret Woods McKay, Eleanor Igo Molvig, Joshua Hans Muellenbach, Rhea Nachnani, Elizabeth Seabury Nichols, Rohan Ramachandran, Elena Rothman, Bronson Royce Schmidt, Saul Sharfstein, Amelie Cormier Soslow, and Katherine Adriane Tong.
Julian Wuerth, Ph.D., was the guest speaker at the ceremony. Dr. Wuerth is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Vanderbilt University. Wuerth attended the University of Chicago as an undergraduate, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania, spending a DAAD fellowship year at the Humboldt University of Berlin. After time as a professor at the University of Cincinnati, Wuerth joined Vanderbilt University.
A national organization begun in 1906, the Cum Laude Society recognizes those students who, throughout their high school years, have distinguished themselves for academic excellence. The society makes clear that academic excellence does not refer only to superior scholarly achievement, but also to the qualities of dignity and honor in pursuit of those achievements. The Cum Laude Society’s motto is Areté, Diké, Timé andmeans “excellence, justice, and honor.”
USN's Middle School Quiz Bowl Team hosted the third annual Welcome to Quiz Bowl tournament at the school, as students continue a strong start to the season.
