A Dynamic Beginning!

USN had a stellar first game. Despite a the loss you can't help be be excited for the future of this team! 25-16, 19-25, 13-15.
The Tigers came out to a hot start in their first set of their first match of their 6th grade season! Clementine Meador ‘31 won the coin toss and then proceeded to rattle off five aces that set the tone for the rest of the set! While the Tiger’s were trying to find their groove offensively – getting the bump, set, hit for a kill – Maddy McKnight ‘31 and Kelliana Olson ‘31 held the defense together with some dime passes. Along with Anna Wolf’s ‘31 three aces, Ayanna Harris's additional ace, the Tigers' cohesive play, they earned a demonstrative first set win, 25-16!

The following set, the Lipscomb Mustangs found their rhythm in their powerful servers, which consistently pushed the Tigers to the sidelines and baseline. After that early serving lead, the Tigers fought back and found other opportunities to score. Anna Wolf ‘31 earned a point with a setter’s tip, and then the combination of Clementine Meador ‘31, Kelliana Olson ‘31, and Kate Jahangir ‘31 used their bump, set, and hits to earn FOUR kills! With both teams bringing their best, it was the Mustangs that took the second set due to their early serving run, 19-25.

In an incredible third set the Tigers were down 4-7, but Clementine Meador ‘31, Kelliana Olson ‘31, and Kate Jahangir ‘31 rallied the team with an additional kill! Then Maddie Kim ‘31 and Anna Wolf ‘31 helped set up another kill for Clementine Meador ‘31. And then Lauren Koethe protected the net and got another kill off of a Lipscomb free ball!  Despite the amazing kills and plays, the Tigers fell two points short during a serve receive rotation 13-15.

It was a fantastic game that earned the praise of all the coaches, players, and fans alike. It’s only the beginning of this team’s growth and while success isn’t linear, this match shows that this team has the skill, the mental, and the willingness to persevere to become better each time they touch the court. Come watch their journey, go Tigers!
