Spirit Night!

Katie Roth
The energy and noise was all encompassing in the Cheek gym on Monday for USN's Spirit Night! Fans of all ages, across all divisions, were there to watch a tough game against Harpeth Hall. The Tiger's lost 22-25 in the first set and 21-25 in the second set but executed so many awesome plays! Keep it up Tigers!
In the first set the Tiger's felt the crowd's energy and presence! The Tiger's matched that energy, but the extra noise made it challenging to communicate, leading to drop balls and miscommunications early on. Despite the tough start, Serena Tanner '31 helped establish the team's confidence with three aces! Then the Tigers then found some footing with better defense and more aggressive play along the net. London Shute '31 and Ryan Ricks '31 each maintained the team's momentum with an ace each, and then Serena Tanner '31 had a perfect pass to Allie Jackson '31, who had a great set to Margaux Soslow '31, who put down an amazing kill! The stands were in a tizzy! Emma Tillman ‘31 earned another ace to put the game close, but the Tiger’s fell a little short losing the set 22-25.

In the second set the Tiger’s were more composed and felt the awesome vibes from the excited crowd! The Tiger’s really flexed their serving depth with all six servers getting aces in this set: Ryan Ricks ‘31 earned two, Allie Jackson ‘31 earned two, London Shute ‘31 earned two, Emma Tillman ‘31 earned two, and Serena Tanner ‘31 earned two! Another highlight came from Serena Tanner’s ‘31 consistent defense and passing in this set. Her awesome passes led to another Allie Jackson ‘31 set and a London Shute ‘31 kill! Despite these awesome plays Harpeth Hall was able to get the win in the final set, 21-25.

The Tigers felt the pressure early on, but they overcame the pressure and continued to fight in each set for the chance to win. In tough moments different players stepped up to stifle the opponent's momentum and helped keep the Tiger’s competitive. That leadership by committee was so fun to watch and demonstrates the growth and variety of skills this team has! The Tigers will continue to focus on the details and keep having fun! Good luck Friday Tigers!
